The 528 Hz Tuning Fork — Frequency of Regeneration

Among the Solfeggio frequencies, 528 Hz has earned the greatest fame — it is often called the “love frequency” or the “frequency of regeneration”. What is it really, where does its legend come from, and how do you start working with it?

Where does the Solfeggio scale come from?

The Solfeggio scale is a set of nine tones (from 174 to 963 Hz) whose story is linked to medieval Gregorian chant — including the famous hymn to St John the Baptist from which Guido of Arezzo derived the solmization syllables. Its modern popularity comes from 20th-century researchers of sound traditions, who attributed to each tone qualities supporting different aspects of practice: grounding, releasing tension, harmony in relationships.

What makes 528 Hz special?

In the Solfeggio tradition, the 528 Hz tone (MI — from Latin Mira gestorum, “wondrous deeds”) is associated with renewal, balance and the heart of the practice. Sound therapy practitioners reach for it most often during relaxation sessions, meditation and breathwork. Many users describe the sound of 528 Hz as exceptionally warm and soothing — and this subjective experience of calm is the best-documented effect of sound work: research on music therapy and sound relaxation consistently shows reduced perceived tension and stress.

Worth knowing: claims that 528 Hz “repairs DNA” are a popular myth with no scientific backing. Sound therapy is a relaxation practice, not a medical treatment.

Working with a 528 Hz tuning fork — step by step

  • Find a quiet spot. Sit comfortably and take three slow breaths.
  • Strike the fork against an activator (or gently against your knee) and hold it 15–20 cm from your ear.
  • Listen until it fades. Follow the tone with your attention until it disappears — a natural mindfulness exercise.
  • Repeat 3–5 times for each ear. The whole practice takes less than 10 minutes.
  • A weighted fork can additionally be placed stem-down on your sternum or shoulder — you will feel a gentle vibration.
